Scavengers Project

tax benefit: 50%

Vertebrate scavengers play crucial roles in ecosystem functioning, yet there is a dearth of comprehensive studies focusing on scavenging dynamics, particularly in the context of livestock carcasses in India. Given India's status as the highest milk producer globally, the disposal of livestock carcasses presents significant opportunities and challenges for scavenger populations. The project aims to quantify scavenger abundance, diversity, and participatory feeding on livestock carcasses. By understanding the ecological implications of scavenging on carcasses, we are looking forward to inform evidence-based management strategies for conserving scavenger populations, mitigating threats, and promoting sustainable waste management practices. Ultimately, this research will contribute to the maintenance of healthy ecosystems in India.
